Die folgende Aufnahme ist die Karfreitagsliturgie des Jahres 1972 bei den jakobitischen Flüchtlingen in der Kirche St. Georg in der syrischen Stadt Aleppo gemacht.

Zitat aus einem Brief an Professor Josef Kuckertz (1974) : “Was die zusätzliche Arbeit der Aufnahmen der jakobitischen Flüchtlingen von St. Georg in Aleppo angeht, ist der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft durch meine Unterlagen bekannt, welche Notwendigkeit mich veranlasst hat, dort während eines weiteren Monats, bei z.T. 43˚ Hitze mit drei Sängern einen Arbeitsrhythmus von 10 bis 12 Stunden pro Tag einzuhalten. Einer der Sänger ist inzwischen gestorben, von einem andern schrieb mir Prof. Yakoub TOUMA kürzlich, es gehe ihm sehr schlecht. Wir haben bei dieser Gelegenheit eine süd-ost türkische, altsyrische Ortstradition so umfassend und sorgfältig wie nur denkbar aufnehmen können; diese Tradition war übrigens nie in Berührung mit anderen oralen Überlieferungen”.

Karfreitag 1972: Jakobitischer Liturgie in der St. Georg Kirche in Aleppo, Syrien

Quote from a letter to Professor Josef Kuckertz (1974) : “As for the additional work of recording the Jacobite refugees of St. George in Aleppo, the German Research Foundation is aware through my documents of the necessity that prompted me to maintain a work rhythm of 10 to 12 hours per day there for another month, in partly 43˚ heat, with three singers. One of the singers has died meanwhile, and Prof. Yakoub TOUMA recently wrote me that he was very ill. On this occasion, we were able to record a south-east Turkish, old Syrian local tradition as comprehensively and carefully as conceivable; this tradition, by the way, was never in contact with other oral traditions”.
